The Tregower Post

The Trotters, in high spirits after their ordeal

Axe Murderer Back Behind Bars

An escaped murderer, known only as 'The Axe Murderer' was safely back behind bars last night after a night on the run from local police.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons escaped from a local mental institution last night after storms blew down power cables in the area and caused a blackout at the hospital.

'The Axe Murderer' escaped during the blackout and gave local police the run around for several hours before finally being tracked down at a small cottage on the outskirts of Tregower.

Luckily 'The Axe Murderer' was caught quickly and although local gamekeeper Tom Witton was hit over the head he was not seriously hurt. He was released from hospital this morning.

Tregower police are praising the actions of three men from Peckham, London this morning after they helped in the capture of The Axe Murderer late last night. The men were staying at a friends cottage when The Axe Murderer arrived pretending to be the chief of security from the institute where he had escaped. He was apparently pretending to play snooker with one of the London men, Derek Trotter when the police arrived.

The Axe Murderer was jailed in 1973 for murdering a party of weekend fisherman and was later diagnosed as criminally insane. After spending only 10 years of a life sentence  at Tregower mental institute local police are relieved to have The Axe Murderer back in his cell this morning.

Rodney Trotter, brother of Derek Trotter alerted police to The Axe Murderer's whereabouts late last night when he delivered a man, who he believed to be the escaped criminal to a local police station.

After discovering the man they had was not the Axe Murderer a team of over 20 men rushed straight to the cottege where they found the escaped man pretending to play snooker with Derek Trotter.

It is thought that The Axe Murderer will be transferred to a higher security hospital later this week to prevent him escaping again.
