Hundreds flock to Headstone
Hundreds of people gathered around a marble headstone inside Peckham cemetery earlier this week after it was mysteriously painted luminous yellow.
The large monument could be seen for miles as it glowed in the Peckham night sky, leading hundreds of locals to investigate what was going on.
The headstone, belonging to Joan Mavis Trotter, a local woman who died in 1964 is one of the biggest in the cemetery and many who witnessed the glowing monument said it looked like a rocket.
The deceased woman's two surviving sons put the incident down to vandals. Youngest brother Rodney said " Our mum's grave is now going to become a beacon for every Satanist and acid-head in England. There's going to be white witches dancing around that on a full moon. There's going to be chicken blood everywhere. "
The woman's father in law said " What worries me is that it is on the main flight path to Heathrow! "
Local police have investigated the incident but have said they are no closer to finding the culprit. It is thought that they will not take the matter any further.
The monument is now back to it's original state after the local council arranged for the headstone to be painted over. Although one of the painters said " This luminous paint is very strong and we have already had to put on 3 coats of paint. We will have to wait a few days to see whether any more coats are needed. "
